The Maidenhead

An unassuming four story stone and brick building found at the heart of the Villeins' District houses the rather unusual tavern called The Maidenhead. Half of the interest in the building is owned by an aging man named Bastin Deant, called Bean by his friends and aquaintances, the other half by an unknown and decidedly silent partner. The Maidenhead was first opened just over thirty years ago and has seen wide swings in popularity over the years. Still, the owners shrug their shoulders and carry on, confident always saying the same thing when asked, "Its always better after the storm passes."

The building's first level serves as the tavern and dining hall proper with two big fire places at opposing ends of the common room and a long bar that prevents unwanted characters from wandering back into the kitchen. The is even a small selection of dining rooms found in the back that can be rented by the hour when one of the patron's feels a need for added privacy when conducting business. These rooms are generally fairly cramped and a bit stuffy, but they serve the needs of their temporary masters well enough.

The second story of the building serves as an inn that offers several rooms that can be had at the reasonable price of 2 orbs per night for both single or double occupants; although the second person gets only a lightly padded straw mat and blanket to sleep on. In addition to the small private rooms, there are two modest suites that can be rented out for 8g per night and four "closet racks" that can be had for only 6s a night by those who want to be alone but can't afford a proper room. All the walls are fairly well plastered and insulated so that most conversations and disturbances do not disturb those in nearby rooms.

The third story holds a small collection of rooms and apartments that can be rented on a monthly basis. Prices depend on which room is gotten and range from 40g up to 80g per month. These rooms are considered a little pricey for their location by many, and it is commonly thought that criminals, mercenaries, and adventurers choose to make their homes here because it is what they call "close to the action". These walls are thick and reinforced in such a way that no sound escapes into the next room unless the most greusome and violent of events are taking place.

The fourth story is the private residence of the Deant family, that at the moment consists of only Master Deant and whatever mistress might have caught his eye at the time. His daughter had lived with him in the spacious residence, but with her recent final bout of maturity she has been moved to one of the single room apartments and is now charged a monthly rent of 40g just like all the other independent souls that come through the Maidenhead.
