Drisketh

Born and bred to be an advisor to the kingdom of Nyrond, the royal court was Drisketh's playground. He learned how to dodge political defeat and sabotage the efforts of others before he reached the end of his second decade. Early on Drisketh saw the value of the dark arts and pledged to bend that power to his strong will. This lust for power was his Achilles heel. A rival for the ear of the king betrayed the only confidence Drisketh had entrusted to another soul. After seducing him and revealing his secrets, Drisketh had no choice but to flee into the countryside. He spent years dodging assassins and powers that sought to use the young mage as a pawn.

For a time Drisketh was a member of the Greyhawk School of Magic, unfortunately his mental experimentation on apprentices and guards was not well accepted by his peers. In the end he had to leave again before the authorities caught up to him. It was a cold and dark day that he discovered the Tower of Shadows. The half magic and illusion it granted to him in exchange for opening up its doors was more than he could resist. He soon became obsessed with proving that magic was the greatest power of the cosmos, greater even than the deities. And among all the styles of magic that can be found, his was the greatest. Since coming to the tower he has developed a series dungeon complexes to raise up a small army of humanoids and monsters as well as testing the abilities of potential young students.

It was in these testing catacombs that he met the young heroes, and decided that theirs was an insolence he did not like. He hopes to someday teach them humility. Unfortunately in his need to rebuild his minor forces and teaching his apprentices the proper styles of magic, he has been unable to find the time for his petty vengeances. He would have forgotten about it by now if his ego allowed it.
