Sarkhan Golden-Sky

History

Born in the countryside of Veluna, Sarkhan had an idyllic childhood. Gifted in the ways of magic, on his 100th birthday Sarkhan was made an apprentice of his elderly grandfather, Aeritus Golden-Sky. The ancient elf was considered a great sage of arcane lore with a piercing insight into magic. The old elf was impressed with the natural talents but was uncertain of the youth's rather exuberant spirit. So after only two decades of study Sarkhan found it necessary to leave and seek others of similar disposition.

It wasn't an easy task finding wizards bearing a similar spirit and sharing common cause with his desires, but Sarkhan's patience and research was eventually rewarded. Located just inside the eastern edge of the Vesve Forest, the Magisters of Hollow-Oak agreed to teach Sarkhan their many secrets in exchange for his pledge of perennial fellowship. As time past he mastered the art of binding arcane power into objects, mastered the quarterstaff, and studied the mundane art of the forge. Unfortunately for the knowledge hungry elf, this peace didn't last.

Iuz struck like lightning into Sarkhan's new home. The guardians that had protected the secrets of Hollow-Oak for two centuries turned against the mystic order. Temptation in the form of looted wealth that Iuz teased the traitors with was simply too great for the inhuman warriors to resist. The battle lasted less than a single night and the secluded town had become a pyre. Like so many others, Sarkhan was made homeless by the Old One's dreams of conquest.

The young elf gathered together with his fellow refugees and traveled the long road to the order's true home. When all were gathered within the Last Meadow on the chosen night, a divine order was issued from his true mentors, "Go out into the world and find friends, make allies. Do whatever you have to do but find a way to take down the Old One." Sarkhan was then called aside by the eldest of their membership and given a strict job to follow, a job that made no sense to him at the time, "Find the half-man and make him whole." At the time the instruction made no sense.

The path of the refugee led Sarkhan to Greyhawk, then northward into the remnants of the Bandit Kingdoms. There he encountered those seeking out an artifact from the Age of Myth. Throwing his lot in with theirs proved to be both profitable and educational. He mastered greater skill, made amazing gifts for his new friends, and found the "half-man" of which the elder had spoken. It was the ranger SalvorTuMeir.

Unfortunately Sarkhan was unable to complete the journey with his new companions. The road back to the enclave was a long and hard one for the lone elven wizard. By the time he was able to return, the Company of the Flame had parted ways. The knowledge about the range had become useless as SalvoreTuMeir had gone missing in a northern campaign against Iuz and no amount of scrying could locate him.

Sarkhan was last known to have been living in the City of Greyhawk, peddling minor magical items to adventurers at a reduced cost. Why he is generous in his bargaining is a mystery, but the School of Wizardry is always paid their dues and percentages so no major grumbling has occured so far.
