Staff of Channeling

This item was first designed some hundred years ago by a long forgotten hedge wizard who was afraid of too much physical contact. He conceived this weapon as a best means of defense. Unfortunately for him it did nothing to protect him from the magic missiles that spelled his demise. The idea behind the Staff of Channeling is touch based spells. They can be cast through the staff so that close combat is avoided.

The Staff counts as a +2 magic item for purposes of hitting and damage. It also serves as the touch component of a touch only spell. When channeling a spell through the staff the spell caster has the option of taking a -4 to the touch attack roll and gaining an additional 5 ft of reach. The wizard is essentially holding only the of the staff and attempting to connect with the other end. When doing this disarm attempts against the wizard gain an additional +4 bonus to succeed. Spells can also be cast when attempting a standard attack action with the staff, the attack is simply considered a very violent touch.
